Prefer cool temperatures of 15-18 degrees C, use warm-weather varietals for warm season production, prone to nutreint deficiency so fertilize often and mulch well, plant indoors in and transplant when reaches 8-10 cm in height, can be planted directly in warm garden soil, transplants easily, weed frequently, tolerates colder weather and frosts, attracts many pests so control for insects and larger herbivores, best production in full sun but likes partial shade in the hottest months, create dirt mounds around lettuce plants from young age to ensure that water does not pool around leaves and create wilting foliage
